March 3rd is World Hearing Day, and I want to be really clear: This is not about turning Deaf and hard-of-hearing people into inspirational stories about “overcoming.” It’s about whether we get to access information, healthcare, work, relationships, and culture on our terms.
This is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. And this year, I want to talk about what it costs us when we keep framing survival as a luxury.
Cerebral Palsy (CP) affects movement and muscle tone due to brain development disruptions. Living with spastic diplegia, I faced challenges yet became an advocate for disability awareness and accessibility. My journey emphasizes education, supporting inclusive policies, and celebrating achievements of those with CP, aiming for a society that values and uplifts everyone.
The rise of AI in dating provides valuable tools for individuals with disabilities, enhancing matchmaking, confidence, and safety. While pros include tailored experiences and breaking barriers, drawbacks like over-reliance on algorithms, privacy concerns, and accessibility gaps remain significant. A balanced approach fosters authentic connections while addressing personal needs.
EEO and DEI are vital for creating equitable workplaces, especially for marginalized groups like individuals with disabilities. The potential rollback of these initiatives threatens their employment opportunities, legal protections, and workplace accommodations. Additionally, it could hinder advocacy efforts for accessibility across education, housing, and healthcare, necessitating urgent action to preserve these frameworks.
Finding a job as a disabled person involves showcasing your unique skills and strengths. Focus on your key abilities, use assistive technology to illustrate your productivity, and frame your disability positively. Tailor your resume and prepare for interviews, leveraging networks to connect with inclusive employers and advocate for necessary accommodations.

Symptoms vary, but individuals with CP can lead fulfilling lives. Supporting them involves education, advocacy, inclusivity, and friendship to promote equality and inclusion.
Many people travel during this time for family vacations, exploring different parts of the world, and experiencing a variety of cultures. Charisse Hogan, a woman with Cerebral Palsy, Low Tone, and Ataxia, faced bullying and misunderstanding due to her disability. Overcoming depression, she now embraces her uniqueness and spreads disability awareness. Despite daily challenges, she creates crafts and videos, dreams of acting, and aims to improve opportunities for the disabled community.
